I now have an apology for a timeline - it goes something like this:
1822 Samuel Cooper died in Swineshead.
1830 Pigot's Directory lists Thomas Cooper gent, but no address.
Pigot's again in 1835 and 1841 have Thomas Cooper address Slate House.
1844 Thomas Cooper died but burial entry gives Swineshead Lodge as his abode.
1848 William Cooper dies aged 86 and appears to have been living at Swineshead Lodge.
Back to the directories and John Cooper esq in 1849 is listed as living at The Lodge.
In 1855 one directory has this same John under a heading Gentry - again at the Lodge.
John Cooper died 1862 and his wife Harriet died 1863.
John and Harriet had a son John who appears in the directories from 1889 to 1896 when another Cooper appears this time called Charles. Was he one of John's sons?
There are no Coopers listed in the directories of 1913, 1922 or 1933. Had the line died out?
There were no Coopers listed in the Poll Books for 1725 or 1818 and strangely none in the Pigot's Directory of 1828 although Samuel was in the village some time before 1822 when he died at Swineshead Lodge.
Much more work needed.
